| Descripción: | Objective: Welding has important effects on biological systems according to type of electrode, welding material and method, the composition of welding fumes and environmental factors. The biochemical tests in this area are at least important as radiological findings and routine tests lack diagnosing the patients. Diagnosing the changes of biological systems of these workers before clinical symptoms is of great importance. The aim of this study was to search the area of these biomarkers utilization. Material and Methods: We investigated the determination of early period of welding fume exposure through Pubmed search engine. The results of the studies using different kinds of biological materials were evaluated. Results: The routine biochemical and whole blood count tests used in welding exposure lack giving enough information to clinicians. Using different specimen types and biomarkers as exhaled breath condensate and determining the tissue toxic metal levels lead to early diagnosis. Conclusion: Determining the levels of inflammation biomarkers especially exhaled breath condensate and evaluating exposure profiles by using the new techniques like proteomics and genomics are of great importance compared to “one marker approach |
