One of the most prominent political metaphors in the Spanish baroque political thought is related with the biblical image of the good shepherd. In the second half of the sixteenth century, it helped to develop images of political homogeneity from the king. It was also used as a way to negotiate and define the political role of the Spanish monarchy in this conflictive and critical period. Finally, a certain degree of evolution can be detected in this political concept, motivated by the concerning for the conservation of the Spanish monarchy and the Succession War. |
