Descripción: This study aims to explore the determinants associated with economic security, measured by the official poverty line, among Thai elderly aged 60 years and above. The data was derived from the 2002 National Survey of the Elderly in Thailand. Sample weights were applied to make the sample nationally representative. Logistic regression was used for data analysis. Results revealed that nearly one-third (32%) of Thai senior citizens had income lower than the poverty line. It was found that gender, age, educational attainment, marital status, occupation, area of residence, health status, living arrangements, financial support, and preparation for old age were significantly associated with economic security. Economically vulnerable seniors were mainly found among the following groups: women, the very old, rural inhabitants, the disabled, those with low levels of education, those engaged in low-status occupations, and those unprepared financially for old age. The findings suggest that these elderly subgroups are the least likely to enjoy economic security among seniors, raising many concerns and policy implications.
