Descripción: This study examines the influence that field of study and level of postsecondary education have on the earnings of recent graduates in Ontario. Attention is also given to gender as enrolment in post-secondary education programs remains segregated by gender, leading to differences in occupational choice and earnings disparities between men and women. Results suggest that graduates of applied and technical programs obtain higher earnings within two years of graduation. University graduates also fare better than college and trades graduates; however, male graduates of trades programs are found to obtain higher earnings than college graduates. This study provides important information for policy officials involved with allocating government funding to postsecondary education. Results may also be of interest to administrators of college, trades, and university programs who are concerned with enrolment across different fields of study and students seeking information on school-to-work transitions.
