Non-aqueous colloidal systems; Charging Mechanisms; Inverse micelle core structure

Descripción: Particles usually carry charges in both dry (powders) and wet (dispersions) conditions. Understanding charging mechanisms will help us better control particle surface charges, and then particle aggregation and agglomeration properties, which are critical to particle physical stability. This article focuses on charging mechanisms of particles dispersed in non-aqueous media. We go over the common charging agents and charging mechanisms available in literature first, and then propose a new charging mechanism that can well explain currently observed experimental results in the end. In non-aqueous systems, the inverse micelle core structure is always associated with particles (if there are particles presented in the systems), we therefore will not treat the particles/liquid colloidal suspension systems differently from single liquid phase systems without solid particles, as those single phase non-aqueous systems always have inverse micelle soft “particles” inside.
