Descripción: Las recientes reformas curriculares para formar al docente de geografía y ciencias de la tierra, pretenden que enseñe acorde con los retos y desafíos del mundo contemporáneo. El problema es que el educador solo se dedica a dar clase para transmitir nociones y conceptos programáticos. Eso motivó diagnosticar la opinión de estudiantes que cursan esta especialidad, en el Núcleo Universitario del Táchira, de la Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela. Metodológicamente, se aplicó una prueba tipo ensayo a treinta seis (36) estudiantes y opinaron que se vive un momento que nos afecta a todos, debemos adquirir conciencia sobre lo que ocurre, urge promover la actualización del docente de geografía; es necesario entender la realidad geográfica desde una enseñanza geográfica diferente y urge romper con las ataduras del aula. Se concluye que los estudiantes inmersos en el estudio, destacan que la formación docente debe realizarse en correspondencia con la explicación crítica de los sucesos ambientales y geográficos del mundo actual.

Recent curricular reforms for the training of teachers of geography and earth sciences, suggest that teachers must teach according to the challenges of the contemporary world. The problem is that the educator is only dedicated to lecture for transmitting elementary knowledge and pragmatic concepts. This motivated to carry out a diagnostic of students opinion which are attending to this career at the University of Los Andes, Táchira, Venezuela. Methodologically, a test, assay type, to thirty six students was applied. Theirs opinion is that currently there are some circumstances which affect everybody. It is important to acquire conscious about what is happening. So, it is necessary to promote the update of geography teacher. It is indispensable to understand the geographical reality from a different teaching of geography and urges to break down with the traditional classroom. The main conclusion is that those students deeply concerned with the studies, highlights that the teaching training should be realised in accordance with the critical explanation of the environmental and geographical circumstances of the contemporary world.
