Descripción: Nuestro objetivo fue elaborar un vocabulario de términos del español colonial a partir del análisis de ocho cartas de dote de los siglos XVII y XVIII y verificar si éstas ofrecen un léxico particular o si se encuentran elementos comunes a otros documentos. Para la selección de las voces utilizamos la metodología contrastiva, empleando el DRAE en su edición de 2001 y el, en la edición facsimilar que hizo Gredos en 1990 del original del siglo XVIII, complementando el contraste con obras lexicográficas del español venezolano. El análisis comparativo se hizo con vocabularios extraídos de otras fuentes notariales, después de lo cual encontramos que la cantidad de voces que podrían considerarse exclusivas a las dotes es mínima en relación con el total compilado, por lo que hemos concluido que, aun cuando no contamos con una terminología que pudiéramos considerar propia de esta clase documental, las dotes ofrecen una riqueza léxica tal que puede ser fuente para la lexicografía histórica del español venezolano por sus referencias a la cotidianidad de la sociedad colonial merideña, en tanto encontramos una vasta terminología sobre diversos enseres de uso diario y común durante la colonia, cuyas denominaciones contribuyen a conformar un repertorio léxico de utilidad para el conocimiento de la historia de nuestra lengua.

Our aim was to elaborate a vocabulary of voices of the colonial Spanish from the analysis of eight letters of ability of the XVIIth and XVIIIth century and to check if these offer a particular lexicon or if they find common elements to other documents. For the selection of the voices we use the methodology contrastive, using the in his edition of 2001 and the, in the facsimile’s edition (Gredos edition of 1990) of the original one of the 18th century, complementing the contrast with lexicographical works of the Venezuelan Spanish. The comparative analysis was done by vocabularies extracted from other notaries sources, after which we think that the quantity of voices that might be considered to be sole rights to the abilities is minimal in relation with the compiled whole, for what we have concluded that, even if we do not possess a terminology that we should consider to be own of this documentary class, the abilities offer a such lexical wealth that can be a source for the historical lexicography of the Venezuelan Spanish for her references to the commonness of the Andes colonial society, while we find a vast terminology on diverse chattels of daily and common use during the colony, which denominations help to shape a lexical digest of utility for the knowledge of the history of our language.
