Hematological observations in several tropical ruminants

Descripción: Se estudiaron 165 ovinos (OV), 105 búfalos (BU) y 69 bovinos (BO), aparentemente sanos, de diferentes pesos, razas y sexos en fincas ubicadas en el occidente de Venezuela y dedicadas a la explotación de ovinos, bovinos y búfalos durante los meses de junio a agosto de 1993. La sangre se obtuvo por venipuntura de la vena yugular. Los tubos fueron adicionados con EDTA a una concentración de 1-2 mg/ml de sangre, dentro de las 24 horas se procesaron para determinar Eritrocitos (ER) en cámara cuentaglóbulos, Volumen Celular Aglomerado (VCA) por microhematocrito y la Hemoglobina por la técnica de la cianometahemoglobina (Hemoglowiener MR). Con estos datos se calcularon los índices hematimétricos de Wintrobe: Volumen Corpuscular Medio (VCM) en μ^3, la Hemoglobina Corpuscular Media (HbCM) en pg y la Concentración de Hemoglobina Corpuscular Media (CHbCM) en g/100ml de eritrocitos. Luego de calcular los valores ajustados por peso, sexo, edad y raza predominante, por especie, se compararon dichos valores utilizando el GLM y LSMEANS de! paquete estadístico SAS. Las medias cuadráticas ajustadas para ER fueron 7.683.554 ± 65.057; 6.098.563 ± 100.603 y 7.498.809 ± 81.553 mili/mm^3 para OV, BO y BU respectivamente, siendo significativamente diferentes (SD) los valores de BO con respecto a OV y BU. El VCA fue SD 30,07 -t 0,16; 32,93 ± 0,25 y 36,94 ± 0,20% para OV, BO y BU respectivamente, también fueron SD los valores de Hb 9,22 ± 0,11; 10,90 ± 0,17 y 11,52 ± 0,13 g% para OV, BO y BU respectivamente. Las medias para el VCM fueron 41,63 ± 0,32; 57,38 ± 0,5 y 51,94 ± 0,41μ^3 para OV, BO y BU respectivamente, estos valores fueron SD (P< 0,01). La HbCM fue 12, 68± 0,2; 19,14± 0,31y 16,19 ± 0,25 pg para OV, BO y BU respectivamente, medias estas SD, en tanto que, la CHbCM fue de 30,38 ± 0,24; 33,11 ± 0,31 y 31,55 ± 0,3% para OV, BO y BU respectivamente, las cuales fueron SD.

165 ovines (OV), 105 buffalo (BU), and 69 bovine (BO) were studied, apparently healthy, of different weights, breeds and sexs in farms located in the west of Venezuela and dedicated to the exploitation of ovine, bovine and buffalo during the months of june te agost of 1993. The blood was obtained by venipuncture of the jugular vein. The tubes were added with sodium EDTA, a concentration of 1-2 mg/ml of blood; within 24 hours were processed for determining Erythrocytes (ER) in a countercorpuscles chamber, Packed Cell Volume (PCV) by microhematocritic and the hemoglobine (Hb) by the cianmethahemoglobine technique (Hemoglowiener MR). With these data the bloodstonemetrics index of Wintrobe were calculated: Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) in μ³, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobine (MCHb) in pg and the Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobine Concentrations (MCHbC) in % of erythrocytes. After calculating the adjusted values by predominant breed, weight, sex and age and by specie, these values were compared by using the GLM and LSMEANS from the SAS statistic packed. The quadratics adjusted means for ER were 7683554 ± 65057; 6098563 ± 100603 and 7498809 ± 81553 mili/mm³ for OV, BO and BU respectively, being significatively differences (SD) the BO values respect to OV and BU.
