Descripción: The CIDIS has its origins in the Research Group called Workshop of Investigative Practice, founded in 1987 as a result of the inquietude of a group of professors in the area of the Social Sciences. It was founded by Professor Miguel Ángel Briceño Gil. Among its objectives are the following: Generate knowledge in the area of the Social Sciences that can be applied to the problem of regional development. Elaborate specific projects that lead to solutions for regional problems. Promote the investigative spirit related to the problematic of Sustainable Integrated Development in instructors and students. Organize and strengthen Postgraduate programs linked to the area of Sustainable Integrated Development. Encourage the organization and realization of events, workshops, seminars, colloquiums, panels, symposiums, conferences, congresses and others; where researchers belonging to the CIDIS participate, as well as invited researchers from distinct areas of knowledge essential to sustainable integrated development. Encourage and support activities related to the development of communities in the region. Promote interdisciplinary relationships within the institution and also inter-institutionally on a regional and national level with the aim of exchanging information essential to the objectives of the CIDIS. Lines of Research: - Social economy and Social Psychology of Health - Educational Theory, Research Methods and Sustainable Integrated Development. - Eco-sustainable Personal-Organizational Development. - Social Economy - Regional Competitiveness - Biological Control, Phytopathology and Sustainability - Psycho-pedagogy, Andragogy and Learning Strategies.

El Centro de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo integral Sustentable (CIDIS) tiene su origen en el Grupo de Investigación llamado Taller de Práctica Investigativa (TPI). El TPI nace en el año 1987 por inquietud de un grupo de profesores en el área de las Ciencias Sociales, que se organizaron para recibir asesoría y orientación metodológica en la realización de sus trabajos de ascenso y sus tesis de maestría. El coordinador fundador del TPI fue el Dr. Miguel A. Briceño, quien hizo las veces de asesor metodológico en las diferentes líneas de investigación iniciadas. En 1999 se integra a este Taller el Laboratorio de Fitopatología y Control Biológico, dirigido por la profesora Margarita Márquez. En el año 2000 el TPI se convierte en Centro de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo Integral y Sustentable (CIDIS). El CIDIS está adscrito a la Coordinación de Investigación y Postgrado del Núcleo Universitario "Rafael Rangel". Actualmente, cuenta con una planta profesoral conformada por seis profesores con doctorado y seis con maestría (tres de ellos cursando estudios de doctorado).El tema central de investigación del CIDIS, lo constituye la problemática del desarrollo social sustentable, entendida como un proceso multicausal, para lo cual es preciso la investigación interdisciplinaria. En este contexto se estudian aspectos y temas que vinculan tanto dimensiones del conocimiento universal, como sus expresiones relacionadas con el desarrollo regional.
