Following the study of the geometric nonlinear dynamicresponse of its individual guy cables (Ghafari and McClure, 2009 and STENG-742: "A novelfrequency domain algorithm to evaluate the dynamic stiffness of guy cables used in tall mastsunder earthquakes", Journal of Structural Engineering, submitted in Aug 2009), a condenseddynamic model is created that captures the horizontal dynamic response of the guyed mast. Inaddition to the studies reported in Ghafari and McClure (STENG-1145), there was a need formore in-depth validation of the proposed method before its more wide-scale use in engineeringpractice.
