Descripción: A critical analysis based on numerous Beauveria isolates from 70 different insect species, and several so-called species of the form-genus Beauveria, has shown that the characteristics (morphological and cultural) adopted by earlier investigators to differentiate Beauveria species are not sufficiently outstanding as criteria upon which to establish form species. It was, therefore, concluded that only two form-species existed among the numerous cultures examined viz. B. bassiana (round spores) and B. tenella (oval spores). A comparative study of species thought by different investigators to be members of the form-genus Beauveria, has shown that 14 are typical and one, a dubious Beauveria species, 10 typical Tritirachiums, and seven members of other genera. The Beauveria species lacking outstanding characteristics were reduced to forms of the species B. bassiana or B. tenella. Tritirachium which was described in one instance as synonymous with Beauveria, differs from this group morphologically and biologically. The form-genus Beauveria was found to be primarily an entomogenous group, and the form-genus Tritirachium primarily a saprophytic group.
