Descripción: An attempt has been made to advance the knowledge with respect to factors affecting fat and Vitamin A metabolism in the domestic fowl through a study of the effect of a saline extract of the anterior pituitary. An extended bibliography on the available information pertaining to this subject is presented and a specific project has been carried out to show the effect of different levels of extract for prolonged injection periods on Vitamin A and fat metabolism, general body condition and changes in endocrine glands. Immature Single Comb White Leghorn cockerels were used as experimental subjects. Under the stimulation of a saline extract of the raw anterior pituitary the fat stores of the body were rapdily depleted, resulting in a noticeable decrease in body weight. There was a very definite decrease in liver, Vitamin A and carotene. An increase in blood acetone was noted. The results are both of a supplementary and a confirmatory nature.
