Abram felt the call in that distant time and in compliance with his God's request, set Jewry upon the long and arduous journey which was to lead it to the Promised Land. Down through the years, succeeding generations have also heeded the impulse that has impelled them to seek out the green, exotic fields which would guarantee them a better existence. To this endless ebb and flow of humanity, we apply the term emigration; and when these emigrants set up a community separate from the parent state, common usage has come to denote it as a colony.
