Descripción: The existence of cellulose sodium xanthate has been known for over 60 years; the salt forms the basis of the important commercial process for making viscose rayon and cellophane. Yet, until very recently, no detailed knowledge of the chemical structure of the xanthates or their reactions was known. D. L. Vincent, A. K. Sanyal, and E. Falconer, of these laboratories, have now advanced theses containing a large amount of new knowledge. These authors demonstrated the need for the present research on the location of the xanthate groups in partially xanthated celluloses.
