Descripción: Our knowledge of free radicals and atoms has increased rapidly during the past decade through the use of new techniques. Atoms and free radicals have been detected spectroscopically in the gas phase by vacuum ultraviolet absorption (1,2), and by emission (3,4) in the solid state. Paramagnetic resonance (5), shock-tube (6), and mass spectrometric techniques (7), have also been used to detect these unstable species. This thesis reports an attempt to apply the mass spectrometric technique to study the species present in oxygen subjected to electrical discharge, and to some of its reactions.
