Descripción: Objeto: El objetivo de la investigación es indagar en las actividades formativas que desarrollan empresas constructoras en Castilla-La Mancha, con los ingenieros de edificación/arquitectos técnicos que trabajan como jefes de obra y su efecto sobre la satisfacción laboral. Diseño/metodología: Se realizaron 34 entrevistas semi-estructuradas. Mediante el empleo de metodología cualitativa, el contenido de las entrevistas se analizó utilizando el programa ATLAS.ti. Aportaciones y resultados: Salvo una gran empresa, no existe una planificación de la formación que responda completamente a las necesidades de estos profesionales. Existe una formación introductoria en los sistemas de gestión de la empresa (cuando los hay), y la obligatoria por ley en prevención de riesgos laborales. Adicionalmente, la mayoría de los ingenieros realizan actividades de formación propias, con el fin de actualizar o aumentar conocimientos, o para mejorar en el puesto de trabajo. Han aparecido una serie de barreras que dificultan la existencia y los efectos que podría tener la formación sobre las personas que la realizan. Finalmente, el efecto de la formación sobre la satisfacción laboral suele ser positivo, con mayor intensidad en aquellos casos en los que la formación ayuda a mejorar el desempeño en el puesto de trabajo. Implicaciones prácticas: Los resultados podrían ayudar a las empresas constructoras a definir un programa de formación que cumpla adecuadamente los objetivos de esta práctica esencial en el desarrollo de los recursos humanos. Valor añadido: Se cubre un vacío existente en la literatura sobre la dirección y gestión de recursos humanos en el Sector de la Construcción en España. El estudio aporta la visión que los ingenieros de edificación/arquitectos técnicos tienen sobre la formación y sus efectos.
Purpose: This paper explores training activities for building engineers, working as site managers, carried out by construction companies in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha. It also examines the effect of training on job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative methodology has been applied, by means of 34 semi-structured interviews to 34 building engineers. Atlas-ti software has been used for the analysis of the interview contents. Findings and Originality/value: With the exception of a large company, no planned training has been developed in order to satisfy building engineers` needs. If any, there is initial training for management systems, as well as compulsory training or risk prevention. Additionally, most engineers follow their own training courses, in order to update or increase their knowledge or to improve at work. Several barriers hindering training and its positive effects on participants have been identified. Finally, the effect of training on job satisfaction tends to be positive, with increasing effects when it improves job performance. Practical implications: Results could be useful for construction companies, since they could define training programs that would adequately achieve the aims of this practice, essential for the development of their human resources. Originality/value: We fill in a gap identified in the literature on Human Resource Management in the Spanish Construction Industry. This paper provides building engineers´ views and experiences regarding training and its effects.
