Descripción: Alewives , Alosa pseudoharengus (Wilson), were collected from May through October, 1971, on a transect in Lake Michigan near Michigan City, Indiana by trawling and gillnetting at depths of 5, 10, 15, and 18 m.Age groups III and IV (1968 and 1967 year-classes) predominated in the catch and comprised over one-half the fish captured. Males were greater in number than females in age groups II-IV but were about equal in age groups V-VII. The mean lengths in millimeters of age groups I to VIII were 91.7, 144.7, 165.3, 179.7, 184.2, 188.8, 191.9, and 200.0, respectively. Females had greater length than males in all age groups. The length-weight relationships and weight by age group analysis revealed females were heavier than males of similar lengths and ages in May-June (except fish less than 160 mm), July-August, and September-October. Condition of fish generally increased by period from May-June to July-August and was greatest in September-October.Ball State UniversityMuncie, IN 47306
