Descripción: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of touching on female soccer players at Earlham College, an NCAA Division III college in Richmond, Indiana. All twenty-one players of the 1990 team were asked to participate in this study. The study included the completion of the Group Environment Questionnaire. Two groups of ten subjects played Pictionary and then took the GEQ on Day 1. On Day 2, two confederates from Group B spontaneously touched the members of the group throughout the session of Pictionary while the members of Group A followed the same procedure as Day 1. Both groups followed the Day 2 session with filling out another GEQ. A one way ANOVA was run on the comparison of the experimental and control groups on Day 2 resulting in no significant differences between the two groups. A second one way ANOVA was run with dependent measures as the Day 2-minus-Day 1 difference scores. Again no significant difference was demonstrated. The means were computed for each of the analyses indicating that the experimental group rated themselves as slightly more cohesive when compared with the control group. Their cohesiveness also increased moderately the second day. This study suggests that there is a possibility for these results to become significant if certain methodological changes are made.Ball State UniversityMuncie, IN 47306
