| Descripción: | Offering an array of support services to meet the varied needs of postsecondary students assumes these services can increase student success and persistence by providing them with additional resources and opportunities for institutional engagement. Little Canadian research, however, has examined students’ use of support services. The focus of this study was to describe the use of campus support services by Ontario college students and identify factors that influence their uptake. Results show that in spite of the relatively high student-reported need, the majority of Ontario college students do not utilize most campus services during their college studies. Service use was found to be influenced by demographic characteristics, receptivity to support, attitudes toward and difficulties with their studies, interaction with faculty and peers and grades. New delivery models to increase the use of services are also discussed. |
