This study was carried out in fifty seven milk herds belonging
to seven towns of State of México, México, where seven hundred
twenty two milk samples were obtained as well as thirteen
sputum samples from workers in contact with the cattle. All the
samples were processed according to the Ziehl-Neelsen staining
technique in order to detect acid-alcohol resistant bacilli, resulting
positive twenty-five samples of milk and four of sputum.
The twenty-five positive samples of milk belong to only teen
herds which are distributed among the seven towns included in
the study. The four positive samples of sputum belong to only
two herds, one of them from Zacazonapan town and the other
from Temasacaltepec one. In the Zacazonapan herd, five milk
samples were positive out of twelve obtained (42%), and the
two sputum samples collected were also positive. In the Temascaltepec
herd, seven milk samples turned out to be positive
out of eighteen obtained (39%) and the two sputum samples
collected resulted positive too. In both herds, the collected
data suggest the presence of this zoonosis. The aim of this
study was the detection of Mycobacterium spp. in milk herds
and people in contact with them of the State of México. |
