Descripción: El propósito de esta investigación fue averiguar si están cambiando los roles de género en el país, y de qué maneras. Se puso énfasis sobre la creciente presencia femenina en los campos laborales y en las instituciones de educación superior. Se buscó analizar qué implicaciones tiene la explosión de la mujer en el campo público sobre sus maneras de pensar y actuar con respecto a sus estilos de vida y sus metas. Se profundizó sobre las trabas que las mujeres enfrentan para ascender a posiciones de poder y sobre los avances que se han logrado en los últimos años. Se hizo un balance de los triunfos que han permitido a la mujer ejercer sus derechos y ampliar sus posibilidades, pero también se subrayó la realidad de la división sexual del trabajo, que sigue asignando a la mujer roles específicos y predeterminados. Se buscó reflejar la tendencia de que las mujeres tienen que trabajar más que los hombres para llegar alto, lo que a su vez reestructura sus prioridades para poder acoplarse a nuevos objetivos y necesidades. También se marcó una diferencia entre aquellas mujeres que son capaces de elegir nuevos caminos para sí mismas, como postergar la familia y los hijos para avanzar en sus carreras profesionales, y aquellas que no tienen alternativas. Basándose en testimonios de varios expertos en género y de mujeres comunes y corrientes, complementados por datos estadísticos, esta investigación procuró presentar visiones y perspectivas lo más diversas posibles para asegurar una representación heterogénea y precisa de la realidad. El resultado final fue un reportaje escrito y un documental de radio que presentan la evolución de los roles de género en el país: lo que se ha logrado y lo que aún falta por recorrer.
The aim of this research was to find out whether gender roles in the country are changing, and in what ways. Emphasis was placed on the growing presence of women in public sector fields such as the labor market and institutions of higher education. We sought to analyze the implications that the explosion of the presence of women in the public arena has had upon the way they think and act regarding their lifestyles and goals. The obstacles women face to rise towards positions of power, and the progress that has been made in recent years with respect to gender issues, were covered in depth. An assessment of the successes that have allowed women to exercise their rights and expand their possibilities was made, while at the same time underscoring the reality of the sexual division of labor, which continues to assign specific and predetermined roles for women. We sought to reflect the trend whereby women have to work harder than men in order to climb in their professional careers, which in turn rearranges their priorities to adapt them to new goals and needs. It also marked a difference between women who are able to choose new paths for themselves, such as postponing family and children to advance their goals, and those who have no alternative. Based on testimonies from several experts in gender as well as ordinary women, complemented by statistical data, this research sought to present views and perspectives as diverse as possible to ensure a varied and accurate representation of reality. The end result was a written journalistic report and a radio documentary displaying the evolution of gender roles in the country: what has been achieved and what still needs to be done.
