Descripción: The initial objeot of the research was to convert cellulose, a linear polymer, into branched-chain polymere of known constitution by condensing some of its free hydroxyl groups with acetobromoglucose, acetobromocellobiose, or acetobromocellodextrins. A comparison of the linear starting material and the branched products would then reveal the effect of known amounts of branchlng on solubility, fiber formation, vlscosity and other physical properties. Such information would be of great value in developlng an accurate knowledge of amylopectin, the branched-chain component of starches.[...]
