Descripción: El Presente trabajo titulado “Manejo de Los Desechos Hospitalarios del Hospital “San Vicente de Paúl” de Ibarra, analiza este proceso durante los meses de agosto a noviembre de 2007, mediante el pesaje clasificado de los desechos infecciosos y comunes; y, la observación directa de la instrumentación de las normas de bioseguridad en el hospital. Determina los nudos críticos que obstaculizan un manejo eficiente, dificultades que se evidencian en todas las fases del proceso, especialmente en las de separación, almacenamiento, transporte y disposición final, las mismas que están estrechamente ligadas al insuficiente entrenamiento de los trabajadores y a las actitudes del personal, los usuarios y visitantes, en lo que respecta al cumplimiento de las normas y políticas. Con los resultados obtenidos en la investigación, cuyos datos se procesaron a través de las funciones estadísticas en hojas electrónicas de Excel, se recomiendan algunas estrategias que apoyen a la institución en el logro de niveles de eficiencia en el tema, entre las que se cuentan, la estrategia IEC, dirigida tanto al personal como a los usuarios y visitantes, y la separación adecuada de los desechos que permitan someterlos a diferentes procesos de reciclaje, como una fuente de ingresos, para el apoyo económico del hospital.
The present investigation work, titled ““Management of Hospital Residuals in “San Vicente de Paúl” Hospital”” located in Ibarra city, analyze this management process during the months of August to November of 2007, through the classified weighing of the infectious and common residuals and the direct observation of the instrumentation of the biosecurity policies in the hospital. It determines the critical points that prevent an efficient management. These difficulties are demonstrated in all the phases of the process, specially in those of separation, storage, transport and final disposition. They are closely bound to the insufficient training of the workers, and the attitudes of the personnel, the users and the visitors towards the fulfillment of the norms or policies. With the results obtained in the investigation, through data processed by the statistical functions in worksheets of Microsoft Office Excel, some strategies are recommended to support the hospital to achieve levels of efficiency in the subject. Among them is the IEC strategy, which should be directed to the personnel, as well as the users and visitors. It is also recommended to instruct them on the suitable separation of the residuals in different recycling processes, as a source of income for the hospital.
