| Descripción: | Abstract: This article examines the flow of international television and draws on a variety of sources. It argues that traditional concepts of the patterns of distribution of international television are in need of revision and that what one is witnessing as television expands is nevertheless a parochialism that has long characterized the preferences of audiences. Patterns of Canadian television viewing are employed as a somewhat paradoxical case study to support the thesis. Résumé: Cet article porte sur la circulation internationale d'émissions de télévision, se fondant pour ce faire sur une diversité de références. Il soutient qu'il est nécessaire de réviser les conceptions traditionnelles de la distribution internationale de la télévision et que, ce qu'on constate avec la propagation de la télévision, c'est la continuation d'un provincialisme qui caractérise les préférences des auditeurs depuis longtemps. Pour appuyer cette hypothèse, les habitudes de téléspectateurs au Canada font l'objet d'une étude de cas quelque peu paradoxale. |
