Contributed Paper presented at the International Conference on Agriculture Of Ouagadougou (BURKINA FASO), December 4-6, 2010. The ultimate goal of this paper has been to measure the impact of human capital on agricultural productivity in Burkina Faso. The data used was drawn from the national annual survey of agriculture (2007-2008). The method of estimation was the Propensity Score Matching usually used to estimate the impact of social or economic policies on target groups. By the matching method, we compared two groups of farmers: those having human capital and those not having human capital. In average, human capital increases agricultural productivity of cultures such as millet, peanuts and cotton, but does not increase the productivity of cultures such as rice, maize and white sorghum. That is partly due to the traditional way of agriculture in Burkina Faso. |
