Descripción: Este artículo está fundamentado en la investigación realizada por DEMOSCOPIA S.A. en octubre del 2007. Es un hallazgo de un estudio integral de maras, pandillas, comunidad y policía en Centroamérica, del cual hago un análisis y un resumen condensado que se enfoca en las agrupaciones juveniles que cuentan con una identidad construida a través de la participación en actos violentos. Al mismo tiempo resalto la incapacidad de los gobiernos del triángulo norte de Centroamérica para abordar dicho fenómeno, que hoy se ha convertido en un conflicto social en donde nuestros Estados han perdido la gobernabilidad, a la vez que las pandillas se han convertido en una fachada del narcotráfico y el crimen organizado.
This article is based on the research executed by Demoscopia S.A. in October 2007. This finding derives from an integral study of maras and gangs, community and police in Central America. It analyzes and summarizes the study of young groups that build their identity through their participation in violent acts. It also looks at the incapacity of governments in the northern triangle of Central America when approaching this phenomenon—which has become a social conflict in States that have lost governing abilities and where gangs become the façade of drug dealing and organized crime.
