Descripción: Appropriate resource management in areas with indigenous populations depends upon the integrated contribution of academic groups, non-governmental organization sand the technical personnel of the communities, aimed at a common goal: to reconciliate management and conservation. The role of participatory research of an academic group and an indigenous community in central Mexico is discussed. The aim of the research project was resource evaluation as a basis for management and conservation in the community of Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro, Michoacan.
