Descripción: An analysis of stomach contents of 1213 specimens caught from the backwatersof Cochin showed that the food of the smaMer si^s of the penaeid prawn,Metapenaeus monoceros (Fabricius), largely consists of small crustaceans. Unrecognizablematerials inclusive of mud and detritus were found in more than S0%of the gut contents in specimens below 50 mm length, while in the larger sizedspecimens the detrital material formed only a small proportion. Existence of foodpreference is suggested, to some extent, as there is selective fading of differentsize groups.
