| Descripción: | Abstract: A consideration of some of the existing theoretical approaches for understanding surveillance in the workplace is provided with a particular emphasis on the qualitative changes in the nature of monitoring which occur when electronic means are utilized. The current state of Canadian legislation and union positions on electronic surveillance are presented briefly in order to draw attention to the need for further theoretical and practical attention to this issue. Résumé: Cet article présente un compte-rendu des théories contemporaines qui s'appliquent à l'analyse de la surveillance dans différents milieux de travail et, en particulier, examine comment la surveillance est en train de changer qualitativement avec l'usage de moyens électroniques. L'état de la législation canadienne et des positions des syndicats par rapport à la surveillance électronique sont brièvement présentés afin de démontrer le besoin de futures recherches, de théories, et de solutions concrètes concernant ce milieu. |
