Descripción: Algae on Mayan monumentes are part of the biodiversity of the tropical zone and are not responsible for their deterioration,and can even help preserve them by reducing the impact of weathering. It is necessary to maintain them, and in some cases, for esthetic reasons, control their growth. Knowing the physiological responses of algae to enviroment conditions may provide us with elements to control them.
Las algas que crecen sobre los monumentos mayas son parte de la biodiversidad de la zona tropical y no son responsables de su deterioro pueden ayudar a conservarlos pues reducen los impactos del intemperismo. Es necesario mantenerlas y, por razones estéticas controlar su creciemiento para lo cual el conocimiento de sus respuestas fisiológicas y ecológicas a las condiciones ambientales puede ayudarnos.
