Descripción: The urban areas of England experience widely different unemployment rates. This research examines male unemployment in the 78 English county boroughs using data from the 1971 Census. The impact of socio-demographic characteristics, the local industrial structure and environment, and regional deficient demand on spatial unemployment differentials is analysed by regression analysis. The analysis is rich in policy implications concerning, for example, the merits of broad regional policy as against industrial training and racial employment problems.
