Descripción: In this study membranes were prepared from alginic acid(AA) and  their performance in dialysis processes was investigated. Membranes prepared from the sodium salt of  AA  were modified by using solutions containing Zn 2+  and Al 3+  ions. Permeability of  sodium chloride (NaCl), urea (CN2H4O)  and creatinine (C4N3H6O) were determined by using dialysis method. Zinc ion containing membranes showed high permeability for sodium chloride and creatinine whereas the permeability of urea was found to be high in the case of AA membranes.  Key Words : Alginic acid, membrane, dialysis, permeability, sodium chloride, urea, creatinine
